I work on a 2 years old computer, WinXP Prof. Sp2, IE8.
I clean the system with CCleaner at least once daily.
My computer has 6 USB outlets, two of them on the front panel.
The modem is a XAVI external and connected to a network at 2Mbps.
The computer works correctly offline, but when working on the Internet from time to time the connection is lost.
The local area connection and the modem functioning reports as “connected” and in the Device Manager seems everything OK.
I changed the Modem USB contact from the back outlet to the one on the front panel and the internet connection returned but after a while I lost it again. Then I changed the contact from one to the other of the front USB outlets, and again received conection for some time.
I checked with Malwarebytes, and it found no problems.
There is no error message on the screen and the IE page remains blank.
The computer continues to work fine offline.
The problem is probably in the USB outlets, but I don’t know if that’s so or how to find and repair.
Please advise.
Thanks
Hi idr
What is the model No of your XAVI external modem
Jim
the XAVI modem is
X7005Q II
ver S.V.1.03 H.V. 0.2
Mar 2006
Is the X7005Q II supplied by your ISP?
Because I cannot find any information on this modem even the manufacturer
does not list it.
Xavi Tripleplay Express
You could try registering the product there and see if they can offer support.
If not I would consider changing it if at all possible. Because USB is not the best way to connect to broadband.
