    partitions names

I work on two computers, one in my office , another, offline, at home. On each one I have four HD partitions, C,D.E,F, and the CD drive as G.
This week I installed a new computer at home and when installing the WinXP, the program gave letter D to the CD drive, and now the partitions of both computers do not match. This is quite confusing while I transfer the files from one to another for editing and finish.
Can the partition names be changed, and if so, how?
    pls advise
    Thanks

In general partition letters are set arbitrarily.

C is usually the system drive with multiple drives taking letters up to removable drives.

In most cases you can change the drive letters via Disk Management.

Right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management.

Right click a drive and choose "Change Drive Letter".

When I do a new build, I routinely re-letter my optical drives way up the alphabet to Q and V drives. In this way, I can add and delete partitions, drives, memory sticks at will and never worry about my optical drive letters shifting.
