hi, my brother has been working all week to write a dissertation but has foolishly only been saving to his memory stick (usb). he tried to save the file earlier after about 4000 words in but it has somehow got corrupt or something and is now saved as a tmp. file that cannot be opened. we have tried to open it in every single program but nothing. is there anything that can be done to recover this file if so please help asap as it is due in on monday and he is panicking like hell! cheers.

Andrew, what is the filename.ext of the temp file? Have you tried renaming it to what it's supposed to be?

What program was he using to write it with?
