partial internet connectivity lsp stack problem

hello. I have a netbook from a friend whose laptop was infected through Funweb products and Alpha Antivirus. thanks to a ubcd4win usb stick I have and nod32 and mbam and spybot s&d, I've cleaned it as noted in the hijackthis thread I ran for a day or two. however I had to run lspfix.exe and winsockfix.exe to get internet connectivity back. the browser wouldn't connect before that, even though the wireless was connecting fine.
After running those two apps and rebooting, I found Internet explorer was connecting fine to the internet, but apps like any antivirus application, Malwarebytes anti-malware, spybot s&d, super antispyware etc and even Windows Media Player found an error or could not connect to the internet to update definition files. I only have windows firewall active and even with this off, nothing like that works!
Any ideas on repairing the lsp stack? I ask this because hijackthis log shows an 010 error, unknown file in lsp stack. when submitting for info, it says that this is not handled by hijackthis, but if it is of a certain one of possible three problems, then spybot s&d can handle it. unfortunately, it isn't handled by spybot s&d either scanning from within windows, or from on a boot from the ubcd4win usb stick.
Any ideas are welcome, cause an email to mbam support told me how to exclude it in various firewalls. again I am only using windows firewall and the problem persists with the firewall off.
    thanks
