Can anyone help, I'm stuck with this annoying startup problem,Excuting:C:\windows\system32\wlnotify.dll and it hangs for about 10mins. before
booting and then it takes a further 5mins. or so before loading desktop icons etc.etc. Iv'e
tried Run gpedit.msc and it tells me Windows can't find the file? Any help would be much
appreciated.

When did the problem start? Was it after a Windows Update or install of another program? Have you tried scanning for malware? I would try Malware Bytes Anti Malware (MBAM) and one of the online scanners:
All these scanners require you to use Internet Explorer because they need to install an ActiveX component to run the scan.
gpedit is not available on Home editions, so unless you have Pro or Media Center, it will not be available.

You might try system file checker to determine if any system files are corrupted. Considering the problems that you are having I would do so in safe mode.
Group policy editor is only available in XP pro. Do you have pro?
