hi jim the drive itself is gone as well as what was on it where i had one 80g and one 120g hard drive i now have only the 80g hard drive being reconised by xp my question is can i get the 120g back they are 2 hard not partisions thank you barryh
Window cannot see a linux file system.
Could you tell us Barry if did you ever get a working Installation of Ubuntu on your 120g drive?
I ask because if you installed Ububtu there should be Boot manager were you can
select to run Ubuntu or Xp is this the case with your PC?
If you have failed install of Ubuntu on your drive and no Boot manager.
You could format the 120 g drive by Right click My Computer and select manage.
Now select Disk Management.
Is your drive listed there?
If so you can right click and it and select Format.
This will remove your Ubuntu installation and make the drive
available for windows to use
But Make sure you have the correct drive because if you format the drive were
Your Windows installation resides you will have to reinstall windows
If you have Ubuntu installed on you 120g hard drive you need to uninstall it
with the CD you used to install Ubuntu so you remove the boot manager.
Then format the drive via XP Disk Management.

Hi Barry
Run chkdsk instructions how to do this here How to Understand and Use Chkdsk in Windows XP
If you cannot run chkdsk from Graphical Interface you can do this from CMD promt
First note the letter of your Drive example h:/
Click Start, and then Run.
In that window type cmd, and then press enter.
Now Type chkdsk h: /f /r (were h: is the name of your drive also note the spaces ) and then press Enter.
If Chkdsk says It cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
Type Y and then press ENTER and restart your PC
It will take some time for this process to be carried out.
