Usually to get into Safe Mode you need to tap F8 continuously immediately on boot up, have you tried this?

yes I did that and got the menu up ok, but it cant seem to get any further from there

When you get into Safe Mode do you see the option, "Last known good configuration".

If so try that but personally I feel the system files are goosed and a repair of them is in order.

Yes I tried all of the menu many times. I recently ran a registry software do you think it may have deleted some important files?
I have no idea how to go about repairing!!!! but my son's friend is a pc wiz ! so I may have to wait for him to have a look at it.

I hate reg cleaners and you also may be clammed up with all manner of malware also.

wow, it was reg cure and I also ran an ad aware software. I use Avast.

To my mind AdAware is not the program it once was and you would be better to obtain Super Anti Spyware and Malwarebytes.
