townsbg did you get your problem fixed? I am getting the exact same error message on my emachines PC. I found out that my optical drive was bad for my recovery partation was not even
getting reestablished. Does the problem only occur after you get the black screen? That is what happens on mine. After I get the second reboot the PC will just sit there with a black screen and I have to hit the power button to turn it off. I have found very little on this particular issue even just googleing it. Is your error message the typical Windows could could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\System32\config\System.
