Hello again DAL representatives,

I had an NTDLR missing during issue earlier: http://www.d-a-l.com/help/general-in...install-2.html and I'm missing or have some corrupted dll files in my system32 that is not allowing me to recieve Microsoft updates. Not that I want to go through the same fixes or talk about the same topics of that conversation.

But I was wondering if I could replace the corrupted dll files that dial-a-fix found like jesetup.dll, imgutil.dll, inseng.dll, mshtml.dll, msrating.dll and many more in my system32 folder. Maybe change out the corrupted files with the new files from a website like DLL-files.com - Download all your missing dll-files.. I don't know if the corrupted files are customized just for my PC or Microsoft license.

But since I guess their not working anyways it wouldn't hurt?

Ok I was going to suggest SFC but I see that tallin has already suggested that. To avoid confusion it is better to stick with one thread for a problem unless told so otherwise which would probably be only if malware was suspected. If sfc didn't help I don't know what to tell you.

As for downloading system files I don't know what would be a safe place to do so from. You get one from the wrong website and it could have been hacked & altered before hand in such a way that it is a security risk and/or even infected. As for the system files being specific to your computer, they shouldn't be. I wouldn't try to download one unless someone else knows of a safe website to do that from.

Actually you do. I believe it is possible that security holes can be created as to provide a way for the creator to spy on you. Now I don't know enough about this so maybe you should wait for someone else to come along. That will probably be tonight.

Good job Jim. There are several sections that I felt the urge to point out. One is Installing a Single DLL File is Often a Bandage for a Larger Problem, and another is DLLs from DLL Download Sites are Often Outdated. But this is what I was talking about.

DLL Files from DLL Download Sites May be Infected with Viruses

Since DLL download sites are not approved sources for DLL files and often have little if any contact information available, there is no guarantee that the DLL file you just downloaded is free from a virus infection. Assuming you have a good antivirus program, an infected DLL file might be quarantined as you download it but there is certainly no guarantee of that. Take the safe route and simply avoid downloading DLL files from these DLL download sites.

DLL Download Sites Could Host DLL Files That Could Compromise Your Computer's Security

DLL files are like small, specialized programs that can be programmed to perform various actions automatically, even actions that open your computer up to hacking and other kinds of intrusions. DLL files like this do exist. While it's unlikely that you will search for one of these particular DLLs files to download and install, it is a risk you take when you install a DLL file in your system from a DLL download site. Don't risk it - follow the advice in the previous several tips and acquire the DLL from its source, not from a "back alley" DLL dealer!

DLLs are actually a convent way to store executable code in such a way as not to allow the user to know what the often proprietary code is. That code may very well be engineered or hacked in such a way as to allow the provider to spy on you so like I said you have something to lose--your security and privacy. It is because of this that you should heed to this warning in the second paragraph which sums up my stance and official recommendation on the issue.

Consider this your fair warning - DLL download sites should always be avoided, even though they sometimes provide a quick fix. There are perfectly safe and acceptable ways of fixing DLL problems without resorting to downloading individual DLL files from these sites.

Hopefully someone else will come along who knows of something else that you could do other than reinstalling windows.

Couldn't agree more with all your comments particularly the security element.

What many fail to understand is that dll files are mini programs all on their own.
If you don't know the source of that file and know nothing about computer programming
you leave yourself wide open to abuse.
You wouldn't knowingly download a virus so why? download dll file that as the same potential.

Has you say "hopefully someone else will come along who knows of something else that you could do other than reinstalling windows".

But even that's better than the damage that a well engineer virus inside a dll file can cause.

That is some useful information. Good thing I didn't have any time to fix my dll situation. I have my windows XP cd, can't I just take them from there?

You can copy any file from your XP disc.

But did you follow the advice of tallin and run System File Checker?
System File Checker will check and repair any system file it finds to be corrupted

See how to on this here:

scannow sfc - LEARN how to use SFC.EXE (system file checker)

It will take a while fro this tool to carry out the repair scan so do it when the PC will not be required.

Good one Jim23, you are correct, already given oddl3all. How to run SFCScannow.

Perhaps you could try it again oddl3all. Please follow the first line in this post. I suggest you insert your OS CD in the drive before you start. The scan takes some time and will not leave a report at the end so please be patient.
