    Re: Windows won't load

If explorer is there & you still can't get it to load, I would try to system file checker from the command prompt. Like he said from the task manager hit file & then new task. Type in cmd & then in the black box type in sfc /scannow. It might ask for you windows disk so have it handy.

Hey. I really thank you for all the help and I'm glad your having fun. Before I read your last reply, I read somewhere to try and reinstall windows. So I tried that and believe it or not, it worked. My question now is to try to prevent it again. I think it might be because I inadvertently erased mcafee security which I did not think was working anymore. After i did that I turn on the internet and look at history and there are literally 100's of sites that were looked at today when that was the first time going on. Are they just viruses, spyware, etc? What is a good program, that's preferably free, to get rid of this stuff? I also get these crazy pop ups saying " windows installer" trying to install something and it just keeps coming.

Who are you referring to? You misunderstood one of us. We consider a windows reinstall as pretty much the last thing to do after all other methods have been exhausted. All I said was system file checker which scans system files for corruption and replaces/repairs as necessary. Did you misunderstood this?

    or was it this:

Following our instructions to this point wouldn't have involved a reinstall.

Well it was an extreme fix & possibly unnecessary so that means that your problem was related to windows. Lots of pop ups indicate the POSSIBILITY of spy ware. Lets be clear on what you did: you put in the windows disk, booted into it, and told it to reinstall or repair windows? If it was a reinstall it totally overwrote everything. I hope you didn't lose any files. As for malware prevention, the first part of this thread talks about good programs to use. Most of them are free or have free versions for home use.

I didn't mean that I read that on this blog but somewhere else. I just didn't see anything else working. Anyway, it was no big deal. I put it in and I came back an hour later and it was done. I just repaired it and I didn't lose anything. Now I just need to look at that link you sent me for malware. Thanks.

I'm not confident that a repair would solve a malware problem so I strongly suggest that you read this & post another thread here.
