640x480 won't change, Internet doesn't work, Lost most of my Discs. Help!!!
Ok here's my story my computer was messed up. It had a NTLDR problem and a Hal.dll problem. So after a few weeks of looking for a installation disc i found one. I bought a Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 disc for my Dell Optiplex GX170. I formatted my computer. Then when it finished i logged in, but the screen was 640x480 i tried to make it bigger but i couldn't so i tried getting on the internet to find my problem but it wouldn't let me connect. I got bored so i tried to hear music and i couldn't do that either, no sound. After all that i got on my sister's computer to see what the problem was. I've read around here about the drivers but i don't know how to fix it. I lost all my discs, well they were lost. I've tried everything that i could on the computer but the only things it'll read is discs and floppy discs which i have none of. I've tried to get on the internet to download the drivers for the graphics card but it just won't let me.
And as for the resolution i've tried everything i've read on here nothing works so im sure i just need to install the drivers but i just find it impossible without internet connection to that computer. Can ya'll please help me.

Welcome to D-A-L,
When you buy an OS CD package the drivers should be a separate CD that comes in that package. I have my two CD's (OS and Driver CD) on my desk beside me.
Return to the outlet where you bought the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 disc asking for the driver CD.
Another suggestion but I don't think it will help at this stage is to do an SFCScan to check there are no missing or corrupt .dll files within your OS.
Others will come by to also volunteer their ideas for you.
kind regards,

The thing is i only bough the Service Pack 3 CD, it was only one. I asked him if there were anymore and he said no.

I realise that you only have the OS CD, but you need to return to the retailer to secure the Driver CD. As I have already said, in my experience there are two CD's, OS and Driver CD.

What is the make and model of your computer? You should be able to find all the necessary drivers at the manufacturers web site. Post the info here and we can help you.
Tallin (Hi, long time no see
), I've never heard of a SP3 CD coming with any kind of drivers, unless you mean a XP Install CD at the SP3 level, then if it was specific for the make and model computer, there should be a driver CD, but that isn't what I think jcl is talking about. Of course would not be the first time I was wrong.
