Startup has been going wierd lately
Hey, For a little while now whenever i turn my laptop on it comes up with the Phoenix press F2 to enter startup etc. But after that i noticed that it beeps twice and comes up with
Phoenix TrustedCore (tm) NB

Press <F1> to resume, <F2> to setup
When i press F1 it comes up with choose which os you want but whenever i press a button before the timer reaches 0 it restarts but when i press a button when the timer is on 0 it wont let me do it, it seems like it has frozen.
When i press F2 it goes into the setup, i have tried going back to setup defaults, i exit the setup and it then does the same thing.
Before i would just keep on turning the laptop off untill it worked but it is getting on my nerves now. I have tired updating the BIOS but nothing is working. Please can someone help me
Thank You

There's a problem with either the PCI slot 6 or something that's in that slot
Could you give us more details on the laptop.
Example: ACER ASPIRE 5536 LAPTOP
-
It is a Toshiba Tecra A6 Laptop.
-
The error message that you are getting is telling you that some devices directly connected to the motherBoard are in conflict and are trying to share the same resources.
This generally happens when the BIOS has been incorrectly setup or the motherBoard is failing.
Has this just started?
You could try running your Toshiba HW Setup utility and select the default option.
This will return your HW setup values to the factory settings.
See your Toshiba manual on how to do this.

Ok then, i got it from my school. If i try updating the BIOS again will that help. If not i dont really want to hand it back in the school becuase i have reformatted it and done a load of other stuff to it.
-
After you reformatted and reinstalled the OS was the PC working OK?
or has the problem occurred whilst reinstalling the OS?
-
I had reinstalled the OS (Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2) and it worked fine. Then a few months later it started again. I then installed XP Professional Service Pack onto a partion on my laptop and than that worked, it dint come back up. Recently i took thatversion fo windows off of my laptop, it then started again some im starting to think its the BIOS im not so sure though.

Will the Notebook start with your XP install CD
-
ermm it does sometimes. I am on my laptop now. If it comes up with the poblem i just shut it down becuase it freezes when i press F1 and restarts when i press F2, As i stated in my first post. But if i put a windows disc in the drive it makes no difference.

Firstly when you did the install of Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 did you have the
motherboard driver installation disc for that laptop.
Secondly when the Laptop is running OK can you right click on My computer select Properties.
Then select the Hardware tab and Device Manager is there any yellow exclamation marks there.
Because the PC is actually trying to locate the drive were your OS resides I don't think its a Bios problem.
but I'm still not sure if its a Resource Conflict or intermittent fault with the Motherboard.
When the error occurs could you do a complete shutdown (not a restart by pressing F2) then start
the laptop in the normal way with the XP install cd in the drive.
If the PC starts via the XP install disc it would rule out Bios problems
