I downloaded and installed required updated SP3 ... and the computer froze to a blue screen and then died completel. I restored several times to several points and was able to get semi-operational however I am unable to activate my cdrom drive and my Internet Explorer 7 only works through Messanger and even then is half missing ... no menu buttons and am unable to download anything from the net ...

I don`t know where to start to fix this ...

What is the make and model of the computer?

Did it come with a System CD?

About a year ago I had your exact problem on my Laptop running Windows XP/SP2. After installing SP/3 as I mentioned, on reboot huge issue.

Answer was:

• Disable USB legacy in Bios
• Then boot normally
• Enable USB Legacy and restart
