Norton firewall alerts: Motive Communications
Since installing the latest batch of windows updates yesterday, whenever I oipen ie7 I get a series of Norton firewall alerts to the effect that: Motive Communications Motive System is attempting to access the internet.
Norton regards this as low risk, so I permit access, only to receive more of the same messages the next time I open the web browser.
Can I block access for this programme without compromising anything?
I tried to contact Norton but got lost in their various links, possibly because I'm using an old (2005) product.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look in Task Manager < ctrl/alt/delete > to see if you can identify any strange tasks not seen before on your system. Common Windows Processes may also help you.
Another great little program to shortcut to your taskbar is QuickAccess which I find most useful in cases such as you are having.

Very many thanks for your reply.
I tried Norton's live chat, which was a waste of time, they basically disowned the problem because it wasn't generated by their programme, and wouldn't give me any other advice.
I downloaded and installed ie8 and the problem seems to have resolved.
The offending programme was part of blueyonder's connectivity help facility, and as far as I can find out, isn't sinister in any way.
Thanks again

The only Norton's I have on this PC is Ghost 12 image backup facility - I am not a fan of anything else Norton at all, nor would I recommend it to anyone due to so many reasons it would take a book to explain.
I am pleased you got it sorted, and would suggest you take a look at My Maintenance Program in my signature as there are alternatives there for the taking, all free too.
Keep us posted,
kind regards,
