    Monitor Resolution

I just purchased an Asus 22 " LCD monitor VW224U.
This is my first LCD monitor, so prior to this the screen resolution was sort of immaterial to me, just so it looked good.
My monitor now tells me that I need a resolution of 1680 x 1050 which is recommended. If I use this resolution I cannot see my icons and things are very difficult to read. Seems like I need a magnifying glass to see the info on the screen. Need help and educated. Please.
    Thank-You

Right click on an empty area for your Desktop and choose "Properties", then "Settings". Pick a smaller resolution, then clink "Apply" (or similar). Confirm the change, then Exit.

1680 x 1050 is that monitor's "native" resolution & setting it to anything else might cause things to look stretched out on a wide screen monitor. Thats what happens on my monitor if I try to use anything other than the native resolution. Try 1440 x 900. Thats the same aspect ratio just a little larger so maybe it won't look so bad.

I am now getting a headache using this monitor, I ask myself why I chose such a large monitor? price I guess. I did look at a 19" monitor but it was more than the 22". Not much savings now if headaches keep me off the pc.....

Your PC will always look best on the 1680 x 1050 resolution.
So you could also go to Display properties.
    Then select Appearance tab
Then select Effects button and tick the box Use large icons and see if that's better

Have you read the manual that came with your new monitor?

    OR

I would suggest visiting the outlet where you purchased your new monitor asking for advice there. I assume it would be under warranty so I would exercise that option if it was mine without further setting changes which may void that warranty.

    Please keep us informed.

    kind regards,

"without further setting changes which may void that warranty."

Changing resolution settings will not void a warranty.

Maybe not in Canada, but here it does.... Just to be on the safe side I would not change anything if my Monitor did not work out of the box, I would be back to the supplier post haste.

    kind regards,

Changing a user available display resolution setting? Where are you? US? England?

Never heard of such a thing.

I am in Australia - We exercise the warranty option immediately if there is one thing wrong as one change may lead to many others until the buyer realises they themselves find their warranty is void by what the may have altered. A safe precaution for our clients, that is all.....

    kind regards,
