wonder if there's anything to be worried bout these two processes?
seems like SYSTEM IDLE is taking 99% cpu

System idle is fine. That means that 99% of your resources are doing basically nothing - which coincides with your CPU usage of 2% (it is probably something like 98.5 and 1.5 (for 100), but both are rounded up, to 99 and 2).
The system is very high. Mine is at 76Kb, your is at 77,000 KB or 77Mb. Have you rebooted? Run malware scans?
The below are all enhanced Task Manager type programs that will show you what is running on your computer. Each is nice in its own way. What's Running is probably the easiest, with AutoRuns for the more experienced, and Process Explorer the most popular. One of these may help determine what is running that up.AutoRuns for WindowsAlso excellent is Process Monitor – an advanced monitoring tool for Windows that shows real-time file system, Registry and process/thread activity (combines and replaces two legacy Sysinternals utilities, Filemon and Regmon).

What's Running
have downloaded process explorer, and i'm quite lost..
after closing steam/firefox, system process is still pretty high.. >75000k
what's makin me real uncomfortable is that my pc seemed to have slowed down quite a bit..
loading windows used to take like a minute or so..
in the loading windows screen, i use to see that little windows loading bar scroll like 3 times and disappear then load to windows..
now it seem to have taken like 40 or so scrolls before doing so.. i've tried clearing and setting my prefetch and such, to no avail..
and when i'm finally in windows, things will take forever to load.. program by program, AVG/ZA/Steam/MSN all that will slowly appear like 40odd seconds for each to appear.. then my monitor will black out for a second. like some refresh..
AHHH! it's a 2 week old pc!
*i've just ran Spybot S&D + Malware Bytes and both cleared me of any infections..

solution was to remove AVG FREE 8.5.
tis lowered my mem usage to 316k.
however that leaves me with no antivirus software.
what shouldi use?
i've just downloaded Avast Home Ed.
what antivirus/spyware are u using Digerati?
Well, that interesting, but not totally a surprise. AVG, a long (many years) time favorite of mine, has gone to bloat.solution was to remove AVG FREE 8.5.I use several (but not all at once). On my main machine, I use Comodo Firewall with Comodo AV, and SuperAntispyware. On this new Win7 system, I am trying MS Security Essentials with Windows Firewall. On another machine, I am using Avira AV, Windows Defender, and Windows Firewall. It is not so much what solution you use, but that you use it, keep it updated, and don't participate in risky practices like visiting illegal porn, gambling, or P2P sites that facilitate filesharing of copyrighted materials, such as songs, videos, and other published documents. Bottom line, I don't have a favorite, but I do keep MBAM on all for supplemental scanning, and I recommend you chose an AV that performs consistently well in tests by the following respected labs:i've just downloaded Avast Home Ed.

Be sure to use the "custom" install option when installing, and uncheck any options for extra programs, toolbars, or add-ons that you do not want.
I keep one anti-virus program running in "auto-protect" mode at all times, and have another on hand for "on-demand" scanning. Remember to disable the running scanner before scanning with the "on-demand" scanner.
Scan with one, two or all three (in turn) of these free on-line virus scanners as a double or even triple check. Some very malicious malware have been known to disable PC based ant-virus (AV) scanners. These on-line scanners help compensate for that. Temporarily disable your real-time AV scanner first.
You could try reinstalling AVG again, but do so very carefully, making sure you opt out of all the extra bloat you don't need.
thanks alot for the advice!
have been installing thru custom preferences and at times i really wonder if i should be using stuff like S&D tea timer.. hogs up memory and cpu too?
well thing is, i guess part of the problem is solved.
however, my pc is still booting terribly slowly! booted with only 38 processes shown in task manager, that seems really weird for it to take like 5 full minutes for my pc to be working properly.
the loading bar before windows start up raised from like 3 full scrolls to 40 full scrolls, and i remain in the windows welcome screen for like 10-15 seconds, on top of that, when i see my wallpaper, it'll take like another 2 minutes for everything to be loaded and windows responding properly.
which the only programs running on start up are, msn, steam, realtek hd audio manager, avast,ZA. it used to load so much faster.. and i'm pretty sure i dont have any infections on any files and have just defragmented and cleared out temp files..
*i just timed my boot timing, from the time my M/B image disappear upon power up, it takes 4 full minutes before everything is loaded and windows in a usable state.

My XPP SP3 system takes 4.5 minutes to fully load and be ready. Fortunately, I leave my systems on 24/7 so I don't have to put up with that often. Long times are typically caused by drivers, or lots of things loading, or running at start. Perhaps Avast is set to scan or check for updates at boot. If you just ran a clutter cleaner, they often don't complete the cleaning until during the boot process - adding time. Long boot times don't always indicate problems - they are just annoying. But I will take long boot time to hibernation problems any time.
I don't use TeaTimer because it has caused conflicts. But many of my colleagues like it.
ah so it's normal.. well i guess on this point i shouldnt be worrying then..
however.. here's a new one.
i ran chkdsk last night, it was unable to complete the process at phase 2.
i then scheduled to run chkdsk when windows boot, checking the boxes
-automatically fix errors
-scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
this got me stuck at stage 4/5
it hung at verifying file data. stuck at 0%.
now after that, i tried to run defragmenter, left it overnight, and it's right here at 87% this morning and wouldnt process further.
now i really hope if it's a hardware problem i can pinpoint it fast so i can get it swapped fast as i should still be under 1 to 1 exchange warranty..

How do you know it was stuck? I have seen chkdsk last well over 24 hours.
yeah i read up and somewhere said chkdsk could last well over several days. but that's way too much for me to wait.. only got a pc.
ah. and i ended it prematurely. but this 4 minutes to get to desktop is too much for me to take. i'm running so little programs and just the basic drivers. plus it gets awfully sluggish in photoshop too. which didnt happen just a week ago. i cant figure out what's wrong.
reckon i should go for a reformat?
