    Invisible BT HomeHub

Running XP Pro on Dell Latitude Laptop without inbuilt wireless.

I have recently changed from a Linksys ADSL Modem to a BT HomeHub. My PCMCIA card is a 3COM Wireless 11g 3CRWE154G72 which happily recognised and connected to the old modem and could also see a Belkin 54g modem at my location.

Since changing to the HomeHub the 3COM doesn't even 'see' the HomeHub but continues to 'see' the Belkin.

To make matters even more peculiar I have tried a Linksys USB modem WUSB854GR which 'sees' both the HomeHub and the Belkin and I can connect to the HomeHub without problem.

I have downloaded and installed the most up to date drivers for both adapters.

Any views on home to encourage the PCMCIA card to 'see' the HomeHub?

    Many thanks - Simpson.

P.S. If this post is in the wrong forum please advise.

With so many drivers and device being installed and reinstalled I thinks windows
as just become confused so my advice in this matter would be to have a fresh start.
Go into device manager and delete you PCMCIA card.
Goto add remove programs and remove all the installed drivers.

Run the Registry Cleaner in CCleaner to remove any left over elements in the registry.
If you don't have CCleaner it can be found here: CCleaner - Home
When your sure all the device driver for the Belkin, Linksys,BT HomeHub and your PCMCIA
are removed reinstall your PCMCIA card. and HomeHub.

If you are unsure how re-install your PCMCIA card an
How to on this here: Addonics: Support: FAQs: PCMCIA Install Guide
Don't for get to print the how to before uninstalling your devices.
Also make sure you follow the procedure in the BT HomeHub manual for the HomeHub installation.

Thanks for that Jim. I have tried all this and the PCMCIA card works fine with any router in range except the BT HomeHub which is totally invisible. The HomeHub is visible and I can connect using the Linksys USB adapter so both would appear to be working except the contact between the PCMCIA card and the HomeHub.

I see you are also receiving help for this problem on WhatTheTech forum. Please pick one, here or there, and stick with it. It's really not fair to tie up two or more helpers on the same problem. That may keep them from working on someone elses problem.

I think the advice in What the Tech forum and a call to BT tech is good advice.
They should be able to advise on how to configure it to your PC.

A 35 minute call from Mumbai yesterday was fruitless. The only advice they could offer was "it must be a fault with the laptop, contact Dell". What they failed to appreciate was that the 3COM PCMCIA card could "see" available networks supported by modems from Netgear, Belkin, Linksys etc. (I took the laptop on walkabout yesterday and "available networks" showed up over a dozen) but not a single BTHome Hub. I have also changed my HomeHub for a Netgear modem and the 3COM card works fine. This would seem to indicate a fault with the BTHome Hub but this thought is dispelled as the BTHome Hub is clearly visible and connectable using the Linksys USB adapter. It would seem that there is an incompatibility between the 3COM card and BTHome Hub although I cannot see any reason for this as the specs are identical. Any further thoughts?

Hi Jim - having followed your link and then typed in the part number of my PCMCIA card I came up with the following:

"The 3.0.7.2 drivers available on the 3Com website do not properly associate or communicate with wireless devices when configured to use WPA authentication and encryption.

Fixes: This issue is resolved with driver version 3.3.12.0 or higher. Please contact 3Com Support to obtain this driver."

Have now spent 30 minutes talking to 3COM support who can find no trace of this driver!

Has anybody out there got a 3.3.12.0 driver they could send me or give me a web reference for?

    Regards, Simpson
