hello sir i want to format my pc because i cannot search in my pc and cannot system restore etc i have a xp installation cd and plz tell it quickly i cannot play games my freind says that rundll.exe is not there in my pc. please tell me what is ntps and all which comes during installing xp and what is partiton plz reply quick ly

That would be NTFS - and it stands for New Technology File System (though it is not new). This is the method used to format the drive - prepares it for data storage.

Partitions divide the drive into sections that "appear" as separate drives under My Computer. You need at least 1. You don't have to create more, but many users like using partitions to keep their files organized.

Note you also need the utilities disk that came with your computer or motherboard so you can install the motherboard drivers. Same with the graphics card, if not using on-board graphics. If no utilities disk is available, download them from the PC or motherboard maker's site.

Note also that reformatting will also set you months, if not years behind in security updates - so I recommend downloading all your security programs and have them on-hand, and ready to install. This is better than surfing the net unprotected.

What it the make/model number of this PC?

Is it "generic" or a proprietary machine? (ie; Brand_Name - Gateway, Dell, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Lenovo, Compaq, eMachine, etc.) If it is, please post the make, and the exact model number. If there is a Service Tag, post this info as well.

If the machine is a custom built Desktop, what is the make, model and rev of the motherboard?
