Desktop Clock time different to email time

    Hi,

Hope this is the right place to ask this question. I have XP Home and use Outlook Express for emails. For some reason, my laptop seems to be acting oddly when it comes to the timing of my emails.

For example, if my clock reads 13:05 and i receive an email at that moment, it's recorded as arriving at 12:05 - ie an hour earlier.

I've gone into the clock menu, but can't see anything unusual. It's not the worst problem in the world, but does anyone know why this might be happening? I've checked all the laptop clock settings with those on my desktop PC (which is acting OK), and they seem to be the same.

hmmmm.. i dont know how true this is, but if i'm not wrong, the time u received is the time that is sent from the sender?
it didnt bother me much so i didnt investigate into it. but i think this may be the case..

if not, it may be a time zone thing? or daylight saving thing?

    Hi ,

It seems that your machines are using ( or might be using ) different internet time zones . Basically these are the time syncs used for internet based activity and global time zone . If you read your post on here the time you posted it will be different due to your global locale . These settings are default set by MS but are somewhat inefficient . Upon OS install you are always asked for Input Language and Timezone - these are what calibrate the time settings for all internet based activiity including email . For example I opened my email at 2am UK time and had an email receieved sent at 9.41pm UK time - so no , the time stamp on an email is not the time recieved but the time sent stamp .

Thanks for the replies. I'll have another look at my settings. The first email that threw up the problem was sent from my PC to the laptop. They were only in different rooms, and the email arrived almost immediately - which is why I spotted the hour difference.

It's not the worst problem I could have, but, as I say, I'll have another look at the settings. Because both machines are showing the correct UK time, I was puzzled by the fact that the email times on on of them were an hour out.

Re the time of that last post. It is showing up as the same time I sent it - ie 8.08 am. Not sure if that means anything?
