hi guys
i have no idea whether this problem is a software/hardware issue therefore i'm posting it here.
here goes.
just go my pc set up a few days back, running
MSI P55-CD53 mainboard.
winxp sp3
on board sound card
my audio will suddenly just go off when i am running a game, not any particular game.
have been playin ARMA2 and L4D, and suddenly my audio will just go off.
when i exit to desktop, tried playing soundtracks on windows media player, random files from anywhere online, there's simply no sound.
at this point of time, everything seem to be workin jus fine, no errors on drivers, checked device manager, as simple as it was, there was simply no audio.
and when that happens i'll have to reboot windows and there'll be sound again.
i've been figuring for the past 2 days and i found no answers.
tried reinstalling drivers
tried disabling multiple drivers, disabled legacy audio driver, as i'm using realtek HD audio.
all to no avail.
in distress!! PLEASE HELP!
using the latest (i assume) REALTEK HD AUDIO drivers
RtkHDAud.sys
version 5.10.00005898
was running 5.10.0000.5888 earlier, as my setup disc for the mainboard came with it.
THANKS!
*latest find, this audio loss only happens when i'm gaming online, eg, l4d, arma2.
didnt have this problem during all my offline sessions on fallout 3.

Reason: incl more info
Have you checked your external sound hardware and cables ect
Try plug-in in a set of headphones into the green sound jack.
Just to check its not your external hardware causing the problem.
This could also be malware/virus related and its worth doing a full
scan with your virus and malware tools
Malwarebytes found here: Malwarebytes.org
Is a good tool spyware/malware removal tool and its free for individual use.
How long as this been going on?
I ask because system restore could be used to roll-back to a time before this occurred if
its not to long.
Could you also print the file name of the individual files you've highlighted they're a bit blurred and
difficult to read
i've searched them up and they seem to not relate at all.
i also got my mainboard replaced about an hour ago. brand new mainboard, same problem..
yes i've tried another device, another set of speakers, they give me the same problem.
bought the whole setup 6 days ago, so i doubt system restore will help. cos the very first time i ran any online game on this PC, (arma2) this already happened. and i thought it was just a buggy game. then it happened to the rest (L4D,INS,Red Orchestra).
Since you've found an infection I personally would disable system restore to make sure the infection is not hidden there.
Also wmiprvse.exe is a program important to windows security but can be a virus if not on the right folder.
See here for information: wmiprvse.exe Windows process - What is it?
So with that in mind I would run a full virus scan to make sure the system is clean. Before re enabling System restore.
You could try Eset online scanner to check your PC. Its found here: http://www.eset.co/onlinescan/
You will have to download of ESET Smart Installer - an application which installs and launches ESET Online Scanner in a separate window.
If you are using a different browser to IE. I will take some time to do this.
You say "I also got my mainboard replaced about an hour ago. brand new mainboard, same problem".
If you've changed the motherboard and the problem still exists it would suggest the problem lies else were.
Which leads me to ask. Game like Red Orchestra, are often run under Steam so are you using Steam
to run this game. If so the problem could lie in your steam files.
If you have access to a PCI sound card you could try installing that to see if the problem persists.
hmmm.. will removing the previous restore points and creating another one without the infections work?
am doin the scan on the link you given.
yep wouldnt be the M/B fault. i've tested it too, if i were to be playing on my own, there wouldnt be any sound loss in the steam games.
well also, i did not link ARMA2 to steam.. oh well..
ah.. yep the next thing i'll try is to get a cheap pci sound card.
i believe we've narrowed down to either
driver/os fault? and trying out on a sound card.
gee i really wish i dont have to go thru a reformat and installing a new os.
yep just done that.. just removed the realtek drivers, rebooted, and had new hardware found, which MS pointed to realtek HD aud..
which i jsut installed from my M/B driver cd again..
gonna test it now..
*just tested, same thing. lost sound within 2 minutes of gameplay.
