dull colour on my computer
I had to get another computer and the files that were downloaded and the colour in general is not as good as it was in my old computer, a 2003 Dell laptop this one is an IBM 2004 notebook. Is it windows XP or is it the computer? Can this be improved? I am a computer novice and also a senior.

Greetings.
Can you perhaps get a definitive ID of your computer via this site:
Lenovo Support & downloads - Downloads and drivers
Lenovo = IBM.

IBM think Pad T42 Intel Pentium M 1.7Ghz, iGb RAM 80GB Hard Drive Combo Drive, WiFi, XP professional. Does that help?

You might try to load the LCD Monitor driver listed here:
Lenovo Support & downloads - Drivers and software - ThinkPad T42, T42p
Or else Video ATI Radeon.

Thank you for your sugestions. Unfortunatly cumputer language is too difficult for me. I will have to get someone to help me with this. I don't want to start downloading before I understand what function these downloads preform. When you get to be my age every thing is complicated.LOL
Thanks again.

Most laptops have a Fn key you can press to brighten the LCD display. Look at the blue hints on the Fn keys at the top of the keyboard, there should be one that indicates brightening and another that indicates dimming. Hold down the Fn key (usually lower left of keyboard) then press the appropriate Fn key at the top, see if that helps.

I seem to be running around in circles. I found the Fn key at the bottom, but not at the top. I can't figure out the symbles. I tried to get a chart but couldn't find one. The other site is too confusing you can't ask a simple question or get a simple answer. Thank you for trying.

At the top you have F1 through F12 keys. Some of them typically have additional blue characters on them.

Hmm, just looked and on my Dell Inspiron 6000, you press the FN key and the Up arrow to brighten the display and the down arrow to dim it.

Thanks. I found it on IBM it's the home and end keys.

Did it help using those keys? If not, there is a setting in BIOS for most laptops. The link I gave you explains how to get to it.
