BSoD keeps appearing, pls hep me!
Hi there! I am having a BIG problem with my computer now and I REALLY, REALLY need your help to fix this. I have been searching for answers for the past 3 weeks and still I can't solve the problem. All I gained was a headache and loss of sleep, very frustrating and depressing. Pls help!
You see, I keep getting these Blue Screen of Deaths again and again non stop whenever I use my computer. I had rebooted my computer again and again each time the BSoD appeared, until my fingers got tired and I felt sick of it. This problem has never happened before in the past even if there was one, it would be resolved after a reboot. This time the BSoD just keep appearing every time I use my computer. It appears sometime after windows has loaded and other times while I am online surfing the net or offline doing others. Many times it appears just when windows is starting to load after I reboot my computer from an earlier BSoD. I tried system restore and it didn't solve the problem. I also did a microsoft update as well as updated my BIOS and still didn't solve my problem. I updated my AVG anti-virus software and scanned my whole computer and it showed no infection. I also used CCleaner program to clean my registry. All these done and the problem still not fixed. I am also sure I have enough free disk space. Below are the common error codes in the BSoDs:
BAD_POOL_CALLER
STOP : 0x000000C2 appears sometimes
STOP : 0x0000007E and STOP : 0x0000008E appears most of the time especially the latter.
There were times when I could get my computer up and running with windows loaded(this happened only after much trying of rebooting my computer and luck maybe...) and after sometime surfing online or doing sometime offline, windows/my computer suddenly hung up and not responding. There wasn't a BSoD, just hung up and not responding. I had to reboot my computer and BSoD started to appear just when windows was beginning to load or when windows was loading halfway. I had to reboot again each time the BSoD appeared and I rebooted many times until my luck came when windows successfully loaded to be used by me. This luck is often short-lived as sometime later windows/my computer woud either hang up again or the BSoD(with stop error 0x0000008E) would appear and I have to reboot my computer again. And this cycle goes on..... I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS. I can't do my work with my computer in this condition! Pls helpppppp me!
My PC specs:
Dell Dimension DIM9100, Pentium D CPU 3GHz and 2.99GHz (dual processors), 1G Ram, Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3
NVidia GeForce 6800 and Creative Technologies Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit
160 Gb hard disk

You say "I have been searching for answers for the past 3 weeks"
So how long as this been going on?
Can you get into safe mode without the BSOD occurring?
Have you tried system restore to a point just before this occurred?
A BAD_POOL_CALLER STOP : 0x000000C2
Is usually a kernel-mode process or driver incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations. Typically, a faulty driver or buggy software causes this
Have read this: How to Debug "Stop 0xC2" or "Stop 0x000000C2" Error Messages
STOP : 0x0000007E see here : Troubleshooting Windows STOP Messages
And scroll down to : -
0x0000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Also see 0x0000008E: lower down on that page.
But all the errors appear to be driver related and possible memory problems.
You could try running memtes 86 the download for the iso cd version can be found here
techPowerUp! :: Download Memtest86 3.2 CD-ISO
The only other option is to try to trouble shoot the problem using MSconfig
How to here: Diagnose boot problems in Windows XP using MSCONFIG
and here How to troubleshoot configuration errors by using the System Configuration utility in Windows XP

Did you try "Who Crashed"?
As to MemTest you need to create an ISO CD which will then be a boot CD.
If you have a floppy drive you can do the same with a floppy disk.
If you do not have an ISO capable burning program here is a free one:
ISO Recorder v 2
With this program just right click the ISO file and choose "Burn Disk Image".

hi jim (and others who could help too),
Thanks for helping. Just to answer some questions u asked me in your first post. I do not have a keyboard with me and so i haven't tried entering safe mode as it requires the F8 key and arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate to the safe mode option just when he computer boots up. And if u are wondering how i type this reply, well, i am using the on-screen keyboard of windows. As for system restore, yes i had tried restoring it to a point before this problem occurred and it didn't fix the problem. This problem has been going on since 7th of Sept 09. The computer happens to work only after i shut it down for hours before i start using it again, but within roughly 15 minutes to an hour later, windows would either hang up and not respond, or at other times the BSoD would appear, usually displaying the stop error code 0x0000008E. The only thing i could do is to reboot and BSoD continues to keep appearing just when windows starts to load or when windows has loaded halfway. The BSoDs appearing at that point are usually 0x0000007E and 0x0000008E with occasional 0x0000007F, 0x00000035, 0x000000C2, 0x00000050, and others... can't quite remember.
Could u help me fix this without going into safe mode please? I kind of feel that this problem could relate to the memory somehow. What do u think? But come to think of it, how could my RAM be faulty when I did not do anything to it. I didn't even touch my RAM or remove or replace it. I have been using since i first bought my PC 3 years ago and it has served me well. Is there a way to check or test the memory of the computer for errors and fix those errors if found?
And if it's not the memory problem, what else can i do to fix this? Btw jim, what is "Who Crashed" in your earlier post? What do u mean by "Who Crashed"?
I have a floppy drive. How can i create a bootable floppy disk with memtest in it? Which file should i copy to the floppy disk. I am very new at this.
thanks pal!

You can get into safe mode by selecting Start/Run
In that window type msconfig
In System Configuration Utility select the BOOT.INI tab
In that window tick box /SAFEBOOT click OK and restart your PC
Your PC will now restart in SAFE MODE
Does the PC now start in Safe Mode OK?
You Can check your memory using Memtest86 download ISO image from here http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads....2_CD-ISO.html
You can burn an ISO image to disc using ISO Recorder found here: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
When Memtest86 as been burn to disc just restart your PC with the disc in the drive make sure PC is set to start from DVD/CD drive
first in bios then Memtest86 will start before your PC
How to on Memtest here: http://www.custompcblog.com/troubles...tutorial-guide

my pc still gets the BSoDs even in safe mode.
what to do now?
-
hi jephree,
The software "WhoCrashed" need to be purchased. Can the free version do the job too?
-
Have run memtest86 yet?
Also have done as Jephree advised and installed the Who Crashed utility.
Because that could give more detail about what is crashing your PC
If you have and the memory as passed OK
You will need to use MSConfig to try to find whats crashing your PC
Howto here: Diagnose boot problems in Windows XP using MSCONFIG
You need to go into msconfig untick the box /SAFEBOOT.
Then go to the General tab and select Diagnostic Starup
Before you restart your PC make sure any printers scanners
and anything other than the keyboard, mouse and network cable.
Now restart your PC do you still get the BSOD?
If you do not get the BSOD go back into MSConfig and select Selective Startup
then slowly introduced each option below Selective Startup until you find what is causing your BSOD
The How to above gives more detail on this.
