Congrats on the merge!
My daughter inherited a pc running xp home. It was slow clogged up and kept crashing. I did a clean off and re installed xp. All went well until i tried to download the anti virus, (paid). The downloading was saying 12 hours took for ever to get anywhere. When it did seem to eventually get there the file was corrupt or missing something. I downloaded it on my pc and transferred it thinking i had out witted it. But now I need to download the updates and I am having the same problem. Anything else i am installing from disk goes on fine. What i would like to ask is is there a hardware problem with this machine or is there something I can do to fix it?
Willing to furnish you with anything else you would like to know, thanks.
So the computer works fine otherwise? The only problem is downloading files? Can you surf the Internet okay?
Any errors in Device Manager? How does this computer connect to the Internet? How much free disk space on the drive? Did you install the motherboard drivers after installing Windows? These you can get on the disk that came with the motherboard or computer, or you can download (perhaps with another computer) the drivers from the PC maker's or the motherboard maker's web site.
Thanks for being so prompt. yes can surf the net, checked device manager and there were yellow question marks before the section other devices.
PCI device
PCI simple communications controller
SM bus controller
Video controller all have yellow ? before them.
Can not find out how to identify the motherboard and there were no disks with the pc she got.
Am willing to use my pc to download anything that may help.
There is just 3% of the disk space used.
Hope that helps and is understandable, thank you.
To get a detailed report of all your (recognized) machines hardware;
Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare)
Once it's finished loading and running, click on the Report Wizard in the Menu Bar. Save all hardware related pages (the default) to a TEXT file. (It will save it to C:\Program Files\Lavalys\EVEREST Home Edition\Reports by default, unless you redirect it.)
Compress (zip) the Everest Report text file and attach that zipped text document to your next posting. (When posting, click on Advanced, and just below the posting box you'll see "Additional Options", and within that, "Attach Files". Click on "Manage Attachments" and follow the prompts. Browse to the file and choose UPLOAD.)
What is left unresolved from this list (your Post #3) since you installed the Chipset drivers I provided;
PCI device
PCI simple communications controller
SM bus controller
Video controller (This would be your nVIDIA GeForce 6200SE TurboCache. Are the drivers for this loaded?
