    lost system.ini files

when I click on run/msconfig/ if appears there are no system.ini files present. Even though there are a few problems the worst with my PC home edition is; startup is slow. I seem to constantly have to run disc cleanup to help. I had run a registry cleaner before I noticed this slow down. I'm not a real trooper with this, however, I can resonably work through most problems. Can these missing system.ini files be a problem? My computer runs fairly well. I run MW XP SP2. 192 MB...

So let me get this straight. When you type in msconfig you get a system.ini error & that it can't be found? If the file does exist then you might have done something to the registry. I recommend that you do a system restore point to before when you ran the registry cleaner.

In reality 192 mb isn't enough ram to efficiently run XP, much less your 3rd party programs. Everyone I've known that doesn't have enough ram has complained to me that their computer is slow. The reason is since you don't have enough physical ram to run your programs it must "fake" ram by using the hard drive instead of ram to run programs & hard drives aren't nearly as fast as ram. Not only that but you have heavy use of your hard drive. My parents' last computer had 256 mb of ram and it drove them nuts. The only thing that you can do about that is to upgrade your ram or downgrade your OS. Anymore I don't recommend anything less than 512 mb of ram on an xp system. I know that the recommended system requirments are far less than that & even less than what you have but it isn't enough to run the os & your programs which are increasingly requiring more memory. Open up task manager sometime and note how much memory it is using, subtract 192 mb & that is at least how much is running off of your hard drive. Did that computer come with XP on it?

yes, it came with XP. My PC runs fairly well. Alittle slow in spots, though I'm sure it could use some help. I'm not real good at computer talk. I would try the restore, however that was cleaned out when I used a registry cleaner by Cyberscrub...

A registry cleaner should not be wiping out your restore points. Have you looked? If it is clearing out your restore points then I would not use that again because it is usually important to keep those for situations like this.

Does this mean that you found restore points?
