My hd screen keeps going almost black. even while first booting. If I turn off the screen then back on it lights up for approx 2 seconds then goes black again. I say almost because if i turn off all lights in the room you can just barely make out the icons. Ive checked cables, fitting, etc. Another monitor that is the standard VGA type works ok. My instinct is software not hardware? Has anyone else experienced this? No good guessing, I've done enough of that already.

Sounds like a monitor fault to me.
