    Is this true

I received an e-mail concerning a problem that I was having with installing Windows XP Pro. In this e-mail was this statement.

"If your computer comes with Windows XP, it has something called SLIC embedded in the BIOS, which stands for System Licensing, and it already has the OEM CD key burned into your BIOS chip".

    Thanks

OEM disks from manufacturers such as dell can only be used on their computers. What was the intent of the message and who was it from? It might help to know verbatim what the message says in its entirety. If they where trying to sell you something or get you to send them information then disregard it.

I think they were trying to sell some software.

    Thanks

" the OEM CD key burned into your BIOS chip"

I've never heard of this. OEM CD keys are "recorded" in the OS, not a bios keys.

I've never heard of it before, but there seems to be some truth to this though I can't find anything very definitive: SLIC embeded in BIOS
