No it was one i got cheap from a guy i worked with-a ex-office one.the machine works fine...no problems at all-i don't see why the taskbar moves up and down on its own.
the top of my screen is fine.

I'd suggest:

1) Try another monitor

2) Try running Ubuntu in order to test if it is an XP issue

3) You can also move the Taskbar to the side or top of the screen.

To do so right click it and choose "Unlock" then go back and left click it & hold & drag to the side or top.

i'll try on friday-i sound like a real pain in the ass-but i've never encounted such a daft problem in all my years of using a PC.
