    Counterfeit Windows License?

Hi, recently my son clicked on a box that had popped up on my computer saying I may be the victim of counterfeit Windows system (or some such words!). The upshot of him clicking on this is that I now have a blue star at the bottom of my computer, a pop up box that tells me I failed the 'test' and to go to Microsoft and purchase a valid copy and I can't reset my screensaver (I've just got a black screen background). I bought my computer a few years ago from a reputable computer chap who I always use. He did some work on my computer and fitted a new hard drive about 2years ago because of a virus. I know my copy is valid so how can I get rid of all this rubbish on my computer screen? Can anyone help please?

    Jo

First off for the next time: Never click on things that just happen to pop up.

You could try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

If this does not work start a new thread here:

Thanks for getting back to me Jephree but I managed to fix the problem late last night! Was going to tell you!

It was fixed very easily with an extrememly short download which took a couple of seconds to run and everything was back to normal - thank goodness.

In my defense I'd been trying to ignore this for weeks and then my eldest son clicked on it!

Thanks for coming to my aid again...

    Glad all is well.

Microsoft does run an occasional "Authentication scan".

That being said it is very important to verify such things prior to clicking on them.

Let us know if we can help further.
