Unhappy cannot connect to IE, Google Earth, 3D warehouse

I've been using Firefox as my default browser for over a year now and hardly ever use IE any more.

I've recently been using Sketchup for a project but find I can't access their 3D warehouse or Google Earth.

When I tried to run a diagnostic test on the Google Earth help page, it said to run in Internet Explorer. I now can't connect to IE, it says the usual, 'are you connected to the web etc' yes, I'm using Firefox.

I then ran a test on IE which came up with 'check your firewall settings, cannot connect using HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21).

I can't locate those particular ports on my Windows XP, but did access my list of 'exceptions' to being blocked in the Windows Firewall dropdown, and IE is checked as being one of them. ie, I should be able to access it the same as before. I even downloaded the latest version of IE, but still nothing.

Are IE and Google Earth related - I'm guessing so as their both owned by microsoft, but would have thought could access in Firefox?! Also Big Issue with not being able to directly access 3D Warehouse and have to import models to desktop, send to 'my documents' and try to open from there.

What's wrong with my access to these programs? Anyone can help please?

Howdy and Welcome. Just as a experiment have you tried any other Mozilla based browser or free browser.

Not quite sure what you mean by any other Mozilla based browser? I browse from Mozilla Firefox in google and yahoo, no problems. I'm really not interested in IE at all, dinasour of a program. I just want to be able to connect to Google Earth and Sketchup's 3D warehouse. I followed another link on another forum and the 'best answer' Google Earth help could come up with 'uninstal and reinstall' the program (?!) Which I've tried to do, but it just won't let me, dammit.lol

Kmelon and Seamonkey are 2 other Mozilla Based Browsers besides Firefox. Opera is another fine browser in its own right. I was just trying to see if you had the same problem using a different open source browser. As you should be able to tell. I don't run IE either, or even Windows. I also wonder why you can't uninstall Firefox and reinstall it either. Sounds like the 2 problems may be related maybe. You should be able to do this.

Have you thought doing a Highjack this Log in case it is malware that is the root of this problem.

I don't run Windows so my expertise on what to advise you to do is limited because I run only Linux machines.

Also, If I chose to run Google Earth. Which I don't as there are other ways to run a satellite viewer without installing it to hardrive

Sketchup 3D wharehouse I am unfamiliar with so I have no good answer for it other than try Opera or Seamonkey Browsers and see if it works in either of those browsers. "stab in the dark".

Much as I appreciate your taking the time to reply to my post, if you read it more carefully you will see I have no problem with Firefox - I have the problem with IE, which I must run the diagnostic test for Google Earth in, Google Earth doesn't run a diagnostic test in Firefox.

Please, this is the second time you've got the wrong end of the stick, read my post again. It's quite simple. Thankyou.

No. Microsoft and Google are arch enemies. The Google browser is Chrome.

Anyway it is beside your point.

I am running Google Earth & Sketchup & accessing the 3D Warehouse on all three browsers.

Hence the issue is something on your computer.

Is this a new problem? Were you ever able to do what you now cannot do with your current setup?

If so you might try a System Restore to that previous setup.

If the issue persists I would reiterate rockytnji in advising a HijackThis log in the proper section.
