    Floppy disc won't open!

I have a lot of Family Tree info stored on a floppy disc. I haven't used this disc for a while- I think before I changed the system to Windows XP Pro. I tried to open this and I'm told Adobe can't read it because it is not a supported file. ????? Can you shed any light on this for me please? I am not too good at understanding computer talk so please be kind to me!

Look forward to hearing from anyone (if it's not bad news!).

    Greetings jojo,

Is it a PDF file or what is the file type?

You should be able to see this by right clicking A: then choose Properties.

    Hi Jephree

By right clicking on properties it says File system FAT

    Does that sound familiar?

Yes. That is the file system for a floppy.

Can you right click individual files and or folders and see their file extension.

Adobe should only be opening PDF files.

If you can right click on individual files and folders do you get an option to "Open with..."?

When I right flick I get a box saying - Adobe reader could not open because it is either not a supported file type or it has been damages....

    The file is called New/gft

Any ideas now? Thanks for taking the time, by the way!

GFT is a file extension associated with GSP Family Tree.

    Have you reinstalled this software?

Again I don't see why Adobe is involved unless GSP uses it.

Anyway you many need this program installed, GSP.

Also you can verify what program opens what file type via: Control Panel > Folder Options > File Type.

    Hi Jephree

I am going to install the GSP program later today and see if that eradicates the problem. For some reason I can't find it in the list of programs (although it used to be there!). I've only run the floppy disc (as I used to) without checking if the program was still on the computer. I did say that I'm not very computer savvy, didn't I? If that shouldn't rectify the problem, I'll be back! Thanks for your help so far.

No problem. That should fix the issue. Let us know.

    Hi Jephree

Success and all down to you! Thank you so much; a helluva lot of work went into this family tree and I thought I'd lost it. Tears before bedtime! I shall need to read through the instruction booklet to familiarise myself with the program again (not easy at 60 as everything takes longer to sink in!) but I certainly won't leave it so long (hopefully) to input information again. Many thanks again.

    Best wishes

    Jo
