Deleted file showing up?!?

    Deleted file showing up?!?

I recently tried a program called defragler since windows defrag wasn't quit doing its job. When It cpmpleted to my surprise I had lost 10 gigs in free space.

Somehow the program restored file listings when I search fro them with windows search and that new indexer program from microsoft. there are 4 videos that I recorderd and deleted that take up several GIGs and ISO's that take up more space.

When I goto the actual folder where the files are listed to be, they are not there ( I enabled show hidden files.)

windows index when I try to open the files or delete them say they are bad links.

is the computer assigning drive space to these dead files?

also how can I actually delete the listing? do I need to access the MFT?( IDK how to do that).

I am running windows xp sp3 with FAT32 file system.

    any help is greatly appreciated.

    thanks

It is an operating system level service that maintains an index of most of the files on a computer and updates them without user intervention.
Since you are running Windows Indexer service. As you can see from above statement, "updates them without user intervention" that something is tied into that folder from another file on that drive. It sounds like Windows Indexer is trying to install symbolic links to whatever is tied to that folder without you having any control over it. Does this Make any sense to you?

As far as disk space is concerned, if it's just a link, it should only be a few kb.

    Hi randyadamlloyd...

I see you also posted your problem in the Piriform (makers of Defraggler) forum...
    http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?...0&#entry134520

Please note that under the Forum\Site Rules posting in multiple forums...
    5. There are many public forums on the Internet where you can post questions. If you choose to use techhelpforum.com for technical help then please ensure you only post your questions here and at no other forum. Posting your question on multiple forums can use up valuable volunteer resources who could be helping others. In addition to this rule please only post your question once on this forum and refrain from starting multiple threads about the same issue / topic.
With that being said I recommend that you stay with the Piriform Forum as they are the maker of the software and just doing a quick look in the forum I came up with the following hits...
    - http://docs.piriform.com/defraggler/...ing-defraggler
    - http://docs.piriform.com/defraggler/...-shadow-copies
    - http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=18324

I know these hits point to an issue with Vista but they all point to Defraggler making a "Restore Point" prior to the defrag.

First of all Dobhar if you notice know one on that site answered my question, and if you think im that dumb as to not have searched their site before than.... But I'll ask others for their help. It has nothing to do with a restore point.

any other suggestions since I am running Windows XP SP3 not vista?

    please read original post.

There is no reason to start new topic about very same issue.
Please, avoid doing this in the future.
This time, I merged both threads.
