I took out the service pack using the add or delete software program. It seemed fine for a while and then it started acting up again I deleted all the service pack and still when acting up I put a new software demo on there called ut 2003. Though yes I can get the xp recovery CD's I would rather not wipe all of it. I was also reading that overheating might cause this so the possistion of te CPU is on carpet between wooden desk right up agaisnt it and a footrest right up agaisnt it. If so what should I do I would appreciate your help if you need to know more about the computer just post.

Carpet acts as a insulator retainging the heat. Something to look into. You can try removing a cover on the computer case and running a external fan to test. Its just a suggestion.
