    File Sharing

I am running Windows XP Home and when I try to enable file sharing I get a message that "Server Service is not running". How do I fix this?

    Thanks

Start the Server service. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click "Start" button and select "Run" from the menu
    2. Type "services.msc" in the "Open" box then click "OK".
    3. The Services window will open. On the right-hand side window, in the "Services list" select\double-click "Server" service to open it.
    4. On the "General" tab, near the middle, look at "Startup Type". It should be "Automatic", if not change it to "Automatic" then click the "Apply button.
    5. Under "Service Status" click on the "Start" button. The "Service Status" should now say "Started"
    6. Click "OK" to close window
    7. Close Service window

    Thanks....

    That fixed that problem.

I have another problem that I was hoping that if I could get the file sharing problem fixed it would also fix my other problem.

The other problem that I am having is with networking two computers.

Computer MSI (XP Home) can see and access files and folders on Computer ASUS (XP Pro). Computer MSI does not show up as a network computer on ASUS, therefore the files and folders can not be accessed by ASUS.

The computers are in the same workgroup.

    Any suggestions?

To be honest with you, I really do not know what I did to fix the problem.

I just started from the beginning and went through the process of setting up a network.

I do have one thing that I do not understand.

On all of the computers I named the workgroup "MSHOME", but when you pause over the Network shortcuts with the mouse, one of the shortcuts displays the target location as "Dlink" instead of "MSHOME".

    Any suggestions?
