Sorry for the delay. Running in and out today.

Can you verify your hard drive is set as the boot drive?

the hard drive should be set as the boot drive, the screen is now black and I cant start anything, I had problem last week , it was left on and overheated, came back the next day and things were ok until last night, I was downloading some files, and it kept on downloading, finally shut it down ,but it had down loaded the file 178 times, it was a bit later that I accidentally closed the lid, and found that it would`nt boot up, now I can`t even fire it up to bet onto the BIOS setup !!!!

What was the indication of over heating?

What is the make and model of the laptop?

Hi again, its just come back on screen, looking at the BIOS setup menu, there`s no ID on the HDD, so its possible the hard drive has fryed, what do you think !!!!

Do you know the exact model?

    http://www.acersupport.com/notebook/

No ID on the HDD? Is this a noticeable change? Did you previously see a specific ID? Or is the HDD not recognized at all?

Just a note as I have to run out again briefly:

With the exact model # I can download the manual.

Also if the hard drive is removable try taking it out then putting it back in.
