Please Help me with my volume.
Hello,
First of all my volume does not work. The only sound I have head from my computer is like a beep when a caution or report window pops up. Other than that there is no sound. Also, when I go to manually turn up the volume via the + button on my computer next to the volume sign, it shows the graphic(green lines) but it shows it at 0 volume and it will not raise in the sounds or the bars that are shown.
So, I try to go to volume control and it says "There are no active mixer devices available." So I try to go to hardware and install some mixer devices like it says and it stops half way through and says "The software required is not available". So, I tried to manually download some mixer devices last night, however I still can't get to volume control and my volume is still screwed up.
Please don't ask me to do system restore, because the "brilliance" of someone else told me to delete that windows account and create a new one, so I did. Therefore the last time the computer can remember is the day this account was made.
Please help, if you can it would be very helpful of you to show me step by step what to do in a easy to understand fashion. I can supply anything except for money because my family is poor and can't afford anything. If I had the money I would not be posting this, I would be using my newly bought computer. Please Help, Thanks.

It is more than likely that the driver for your sound card need re-installing. If you post the name and model of the sound card (or the motherboard name and model if its onboard sound) then I may be able to help point you in the right direction to correct this fault.
I will await your reply.

Well I did "Start-Run-dxdiag" and it said my device name is "Realtek HD Audio rear output. It says the name of the driver is "RtkHDAud.sys Do you need any other info? I will be waiting on your help.

Okay, now I can turn up my volume and everything. However, I still cannot hear anything from the speakers or through the headphones. I checked Volume control and nothing is on mute, I checked device manager and there are no yellow exclamation marks. I worked hard to get this far, please help me be able to hear the sounds from my computer. Thanks.

The first thing to do would be to check the speaker plug on the back of your PC that it is plugged in or plugged into the correct socket.
I have found a driver that may be of use to you if you want to update. Just click on the link - Realtek HD Audio Driver R215 for XP
Hope this helps.

Geo2411,
How did you ascertain that this (your link) is the correct driver for that machine? There are many RealTek drivers for different devices. Installing the wrong one may make matters worse.
Cody,
The link in Zee's post #3 works for me. In case, here it is through my browser links; http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q307918
Re; Connections mentioned above etc;
Is this a "new" machine? (Have you followed all the (sound cables) connection parameters outlined by the manufacturers documentation?)
If not "new", was the sound working previously then just stop?
If so, had you installed any new hardware or software just prior to the problem occurance?
Is your machine a Laptop or Desktop?
Is your sound device "onboard", (or if a Desktop machine, a card in a motherboard slot)?
Please provide a detailed report of all your machines (recognized) hardware;
Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, click on the Report Wizard in the Menu Bar. Save all hardware related pages (the default) to a TEXT file. (It will save it to C:\Program Files\Lavalys\EVEREST Home Edition\Reports by default, unless you redirect it.)
Compress (zip) the Everest Report text file and attach that zipped text document to your next posting. (When posting, click on Advanced, and just below the posting box you'll see "Additional Options", and within that, "Attach Files". Click on "Manage Attachments" and follow the prompts. Browse to the file and choose UPLOAD.)
Please answer the above questions, and post the report.
