I have a Dell 810 all in one printer/scanner. It's been great until yesterday when the scanner wouldn't work, I can still use the printer.

I've been onto Dell support and they have reinstalled their software but they say the software for the scanner is being blocked by something on my PC.

I disabled the firewall, but that made no difference. Replaced usb and cable, no difference.

I have Malaware, Ad Aware, Avira and C Cleaner on my PC, but only use one at a time.
I have BT Yahoo as my browser, but also have Internet explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox 3 as back up browsers.

Anyone have an ides what could be blocking the dell software?

Please, any ideas, I'm going mad here. My grandson brought his laptop and the scanner works fine on that, so why wont it work on mine?

"They have reinstalled...." Do you mean you have given over (remote) access to your machine to Dell Support?

Do you have the entire software install package for the device? Have you tried installing in Safe Mode?

What Firewall are you running?

What Anti-Virus are you running?

Have you stopped the firewall/AV/malware etc processes (ensuring you're off-line of course) prior to the software install?

Thanks for your reply Danny. No Dell have told me to re install their disc that came with the printer.scanner. I have done that, but apparently there is a driver for the printer and a driver for the scanner. Something appears to be stopping the software for the scanner because the printer is ok. It just wont work when I want to save a photo to my computer.
I have AVG free anti virus, also C Cleaner and Ad Aware. Other than that I only use Mozilla Firefox and MSN.
I have a BT Yahoo firewall which I tried disabling to download the software but that didn't help.
I'm grateful for any thoughts you may have, I've tried changing all the leads and usb between pc and scanner.
It seems there is something preventing the scanner from working, yet my grandson brought his laptop around and we inserted the Dell disc in it and it worked fine.

Sorry, to add to that Dan, how do you install in safe mode?

When booting, tap the F8 key. You'll be presented with the XP Startup Menu. Choose Safe Mode. Then attempt the software install.
