Something Just Aint Right!
I have a custom built computer, although it is about 2/3 years old. OS is XP.
Its been running fine recently until this morning when i needed to restart it. Everythign seemed fine till it got to the desktop screen. Nothing loaded up, no start button, no task bar no anything. I restarted it again thinkign it was just beign glitchy. Still again nothing. Nothing unusual was happening on the lead up to my desktop screen atall, no error messages, no blue screen etc.
It wasn't until i left it for about an hour that the desktop came to life...however on doing this Zonealarm decided to not work, so I uninstalled that thinkign I would be able to go download it again, however ALOT of websites are not working (download.com, google, and many many more!) and some of my programs are not functioning properly.
I have run all my Scans (Used AVG, CounterSpy, Spybot and Ccleaner). I have cleaned all history, cache etc from all web browsers.
But still something is not right.
I was hit with one or two trojan horses last week, but since then all my scans have said that my computer is clean other than silly little things that you get when generally browsing the net.
I think that is about all info that is needed....if i have missed anythgin out let me know, thanks for readign and please please HELP

Welcome to techhelpforum.
The above is a good suggestion if you can download the latest updates. If you can, this may clear up your problems.
If not, or problems remain, can you download HiJackThis? http://filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
If so, I'd take your situation one step further. Unfortunately at this time, this site has a shortage of HJT log analysts so please go to our sister-site to have your machine analyzed by our Security Personnel;
Follow the instructions here-> HiJackThis prerequisites. There are important measures outlined here which affect and "optimize" the outcome of your HJT log.
Then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs Forum. You can reference this thread for them for back ground information: (Right click and choose Copy Shortcut -->http://www.techhelpforum.com/showthr...0436#post30436 then paste it into your new thread at D-A-L.)
You will have to become a site member (free of course) in order to post.
If you can't download any of these programs and their updates, go to a working machine and perform the downloads. Burn them to a CD (or copy to a USB flashdrive) then install them on your machine. Run any program updates then perform the scans.
Once your machine is free of any malware/spyware etc, then undertake a general maintenance/cleanup;
[CHKDSK]
Open a Command Prompt window. Type in chkdsk c: /r at the command prompt. (If c: is your windows drive. If not, adjust accordingly.) It will inform you that it must be run at the next boot. (Comply, shut down Windows and reboot.)
[SFC]
Run a file check on the O/S.
If you have an XP CD:
Click START, RUN, type in:
sfc /purgecache
(This ensures that system files are copied from your Windows installation media, and files which may be infected with malware, or are corrupted, are not copied from your drive. Some of the files which are restored/replaced may need MS Updates applied. If sfc replaces any such files, you will have to reinstall updates for those files. (If you have Automatic Updates active, this will happen automatically.))
Then type in:
sfc /scannow
Have your XP CD handy.
If you don't have an XP CD:
Click START, RUN, type in:
sfc /scannow
[CCLEANER]
A good (free) "cleaner" for removing junk from your system is CCleaner. It also performs a "clean-up" pass on the registry.
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/
(Click on Download from FileHippo......, in the PayPal box)
Alternate Download;
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
During the installation, remove the check mark to install the Yahoo Toolbar if bundled with the version you download. (Just junk IMHO.)
Once you download and install it, open the program then click on (left hand side) OPTIONS, then COOKIES. Any cookies you want to save (trusted sites, places you have usernames/passwords), highlight them in the left column, then (using the directional arrows between the panes), move them to the right hand column under "Cookies to keep".
Still under Options, click on Advanced. Remove the check mark from the box for "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".
Leave all other settings at the default.
Then click on Cleaner (on the top left). When that window opens, click on Run Cleaner (bottom right of the window.)
When it finishes, close CCleaner, and restart your machine. (Some files will not be deleted until a restart is performed.)
I do not advocate running CCleaner on each boot. I run it once or twice a week.
[REGSEEKER]
http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
Open it, click on Clean The Registry, then OK.
Once it's finished, along the bottom of the screen, click on Select, choose "Select All". Then click on Action, then "Delete selected items".
All deleted items will be backed up, just click OK for the default backup filenames/locations.
Post back with your results and any further questions.
