Exclamation Windows not booting: NTLDR is missing

Please help me - your support will be greatly appreciated!

My colleague and friend (66 year old lady) is having problems booting her computer. As a semi-geek, she has asked me for my help.

When she tried to start her computer this morning, Windows would not start. She just gets the message "NTLDR is missing / Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". Whenever you press Ctrl+Alt+Del, it just does the same again.

She tells me that last night she was tidying up her folders, and the technical looking files messily left places such as the C:/ folder, she moved into a folder she called "Computer stuff". Please do not tell me that this was a stupid thing for her to have done: I know that! And she now realises it was a bit of a mistake, too!

I have tried putting a bootable Windows XP CD in to the CD ROM drive, but that does not do anything different. I have pressed Enter on the Fujitsu splash screen and selected "Boot Menu" and told the computer to boot from CD (which is already option 1 anyway). Still, no difference.

I have gone into "Diagnostic program" which, after a lengthy scan, tells me there are no problems with anything.

I have gone into "Recovery and Utility", which tells me "Windows is loading files..." and then shows a Windows progress bar with "(C) Microsoft Corporation". Then I get a blue and green background followed by a message in Korean telling me that it is preparing, please wait, bearing a repeating progress bar.

I then get a window with a title saying System Recovery Option, in Korean. It requires me to choose a language, although whichever option I choose, (including UK English or US English), it continues to communicate with me in Korean.

I have two option (again, in Korean): System Recovery or Deactivation and Utility.

Choosing System Recovery, I have completed all the options.

Under Deactivation and Utility, I chose two recovery options. Both told me there were problems with the hard disk partitions (in Korean).

I found http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000465.htm very informative, although it seems to expect me to be able to recover using the Windows CD on XP, but I cannot. Why is this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTLDR also provided some help, with a link to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320397 .

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320397 seemed to quickly assume that too many folders were in the C:/ root folder, which is not the case with my friend's computer.

I am also concerned because if the computer does not recognise bootable Windows disks, wouldn't this mean that it is not possible to reinstall Windows (if necessary, as a last resort)?

    Help appreciated. Thank you.

being a semi geek I think you know how recovery console works :notworthy:

ok boot your pc to recover console and logon to the correct installation. navigate to your cd i386 folder, i dont remember where nldr file is located just browse that folder when you found it just copy it to your drive c:\ say yes to overwrite notification.
sorry I can't guide you completely but that is the idea.

    good luck
