XP not recognising my sound set up.
Recognising my sound set up.
Hello
I have a sound issue I can't figure out how to resolve.
When on the PC i wear a headset, however, when i set the option to "Stereo Headphones" under:
control panel > sounds and audio devices > speaker settings > advanced it stops all sounds working, but when i select "Surround sound 5.1" it works again.
This wouldn't be an issue for every day use but i play the ocasional game online, and my son plays world of warcraft with friends and its effecting the sound in strange ways i.e only certain sounds actually work.
Does anyone have a solution? if more info is required i'll try my best to provide it.
Thanks

Welcome to techhelpforum.
Are you running the motherboards "on-Board" sound device, or, do you have an internal sound card/external sound device?
Where (what jack) is your headset plugged into? (Based upon the above.)
Does your headset have only one 1/8" male plug, or two?
Are there any errors/conflicts showing in Device Manager on any devices? (Start, Run, devmgmt.msc, or, C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc)
To get a detailed report of all your machines (recognized) hardware;
Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, click on the Report Wizard in the Menu Bar. Save all hardware related pages (the default) to a TEXT file in a location of your choice. (It will default the location to C:\Program Files\Lavalys\EVEREST Home Edition\Reports, unless you redirect it.)
Compress (zip) the Everest Report text file and attach that zipped text document to your next posting. (When posting, click on Advanced, and just below the posting box you'll see "Additional Options", and within that, "Attach Files". Click on "Manage Attachments" and follow the prompts. Browse to the file and choose UPLOAD.)
Post back with your results and any further questions.
