desk top will not power up
I have had my desk top computer about 7 years. It was performing perfectly untill today. I noticed that the screen saver photo slide had stuck on one image i rebooted windows hallfway through the process all power went i pressed the reset button the power button and reset button illuminated briefly and then went dead. Each time i try to power up the power and rest button illuuinates for 1 second and then goes dead. Any ideas?

If you've done any "tinkering" on the inside of the enclosure, check all power/data cable connections to ensure they are fully engaged.
If you haven't been inside the enclosure;- Ensure your power is good at the wall outlet
- Ensure your machines power cord is good and fully engaged in the wall outlet and the rear of the power supply
- Ensure any dust etc is cleaned from heatsinks/fans (and all fans are running freely)
- Pick up a power supply tester to check your power supply.
Power supply testers can be obtained at most computer stores. There are cheap ones (giving red/green lights to indicate good/bad), and there are better ones which provide readouts on the power supply rails indicating +/- variance on the supplies. Deviations of more than 5% indicate a new power supply may be in order.
