Dell 2200 Dimension running XP Pro with floppy drive problems. I purchased this computer and the floppy drive was not working. I purchased a new floppy drive and installed it. Using Device Manager, I uninstalled the floppy drive and the floppy drive controller and rebooted the computer. The computer recognizes the floppy drive but when I put a floppy disk into the drive and click on the drive icon I get a message to insert a disk.

Any suggestions?

Make sure that the cable is connected properly to the mainboard and take note of the inverted part of the cable. It must be closer of the floppy drive not to the mainboard. Another indication of a problem with the connection of the cables is if the LED on the floppy keeps lit it.

Ok please report outcome.

All of the connections were tight.
I found a floppy cable that I had forgotten about and replaced the cable.

Problem resolved.
