I received a pop up saying that I could download a updated version of the Norton Internet Security software that I was running. I elected to download the update version (2009) which seemed to take longer than normal. After the download finished I ran a full scan and everything seemed to be fine. After the scan the computer was very slow. I attempted to use the restore five different times using five different points with no success. I get a message that my computer was not restored. What are my options? The operating system is XP Pro.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I started the computer up in safe mode and was able to utilize a restore point. The computer seems to be back to normal.

Remember to (from my above link): create a manual restore point in normal mode now that your system and System Restore is back (to normal).
