Personally speaking, I would install the following free Firewall, namely Comodo Firewall Pro. Naturally, uninstall any other Firewall, including disabling XP's native Firewall, prior to installing any other Firewall: -

After you have downloaded Comodo and disconnected from the Internet, uninstall any other third party Firewall, or disable XP's native Firewall via Security Centre in Control Panel, install Comodo Firewall, reconnect to the Internet, and update it, as, for example, Comodo's Firewall Pro includes a malware/virus/spyware scanner, that needs to be updated on a daily basis. Defence+ > (Common Tasks) > Scan My System.
Good luck.

Did you download and install the 32-bit Setup or the 64-bit Setup? It sounds like you installed the 64-bit Setup instead of the 32-bit Setup, IMO.
Try to reinstall Comodo Firewall Pro using the following link and clicking on 'Download Comodo Firewall Pro FREE!': -

If you do encounter any issues installing the program, I would advise that you register with Comodo's forum and post your issue under the following sub-forum, providing as much detail as possible: -
