cdrive trouble
I had recently been getting the message that my Cdrive was almost full. I proceeded to transfer 26 GB of itunes library to an external hard drive. This seemed to work as when I looked at the cdrive properties a large pink portion had appeared and itunes seemed to work and find all my songs ok.
I turned the PC off and to my surprise when I turned it back on the message about the drive being full reappeared and in properties just shows a giant blue disc. My entire itunes library is no longer showing but all of these still appear on the external drive so that isn't such an issue but the 'full' thing is.
What is going on, why and how do I sort it out without resorting to making the PC 'fly'?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to techhelpforum.
Do you have the INDEXING service running? If so, the index files could be consuming space on the drive. (It also comsumes CPU cycles/RAM.) Unless you have a "fast" machine with 1 GB or more of memory, I'd turn it off. A few seconds or miliseconds of time doesn't matter much to me in my system searches.
To disable the Indexing Service go to Start, Run, type in services.msc. Scroll down to Indexing Service. You can see the Status says “Started,” and the Startup Type says “Automatic.”
Next either double-click on Indexing Service, or right-click it and choose Properties. Click the Stop button, then click OK. Then in Startup type select Disabled. Now you should see the Status as blank, and the Startup Type should say “Disabled.” Now reboot your machine to clear RAM.

Recycle Bin emptied?
TEMP and TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES and COOKIES emptied out?
If not;
A good (free) "cleaner" for removing junk from your system is CCleaner.
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/
(Click on Download from FileHippo......, in the PayPal box)
Alternate Download;
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
Once you download and install it, open the program then click on (on the left hand side) OPTIONS, then COOKIES. Any cookies you want to save (trusted sites, places you have usernames/passwords), highlight them in the left column, then (using the directional arrows between the panes), move them to the right hand column under "Cookies to keep".
Still under Options, click on Advanced. Remove the check mark from the box for "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
Then click on Cleaner (on the top left). When that window opens, click on Run Cleaner (bottom right of the window.)
When it finishes, close CCleaner, and restart your machine.
(Some files will not be deleted until a restart is performed.)
I do not advocate running CCleaner on each boot. I run it once or twice a week.
Post back with your results and any further questions.

Hi Dan,
Have downloaded and run ccleaner, to no avail, Cdrive still showing completely full even though it isn't.
Any further ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Click Start, Run, type in chkdsk c: /f and hit ENTER. It will tell you that it can't be checked as it's in use etc, Restart? Affirm a restart and it will check the drive upon startup.
Once the disk has been checked and any errors fixed, a defrag would also be in order if it hasn't been performed in a while.
