virus damage repair/windows xp
When searching for a battery for my wifes mp3 player one site downloaded several trojons into my computer. I was using Windows live one care for my virus protection I now have Avast hope it is better. After many scans with several different programs I hope everything is out. Everything is running smooth and fast at the moment. My problem is the clock in the task bar stays on 24 hr no matter how many times I change it and right after the clock reads virus alert!
Also the" all programs "in the start menu is missing. When these viruses hit they took out half of the desk top icons and added several others I think I removed them completely but not sure. I scan every day and nothing shows up. Is there a way to reset the task bar and start menu. I tried restore but they wiped out all restore points before the attack. Any help would be great. Thanks

Your problem description indicates what you (still) have is probably malware or spyware.
Unfortunately at this time, this site has a shortage of HJT log analysts.
Try the measures outlined here; Cleaning Out Malware

If this doesn't help, or (other) issues remain which cannot be resolved through these measures, or if you don't get another reply within 24 hrs,,,,,,
Please go to our sister-site; Follow the instructions here-> HiJackThis prerequisites.
There are important measures outlined here which affect and "optimize" the outcome of your HJT log.
Then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs Forum.
You will have to become a site member in order to post.

Definitely spyware problems.. Post a hijackthis log and even a combofix log if you can. Can surely pinpoint the errors from there..
