Unhappy Cannot boot up Windows xp

    Hello, please help.

Last night, instead of logging off the pc cleanly, I used the reset button, there were no open applications so I thought that might be ok.

Trying to boot up now, I get the usual message telling me it was interrupted and the options to Start from the last known good configuration / Safe Mode / Safe Mode Using Command Prompt etc etc.

No matter which option I use, the monitor shuts down and tries to start up again, then it shuts down, and tries to start up, shuts down etc ad infinitum. Using Last Known Configuration gets further but hangs at the point where Windows xp appears on the screen.

I know I obviously should not shut the pc off in this way but is there anyway I can resolve this ?

Is the hard drive beyond repair ?

Thankyou for that...unfortunately, I tried booting up from the Windows CD later that day. I got so far and then got " halacpi.dll could not be loaded "

I had a look on the web and got some inf about booting up from a boot.ini file which I saved onto a cd....is this any good ?

First check the XP disc, give it a good clean and try the repair install again.

Take a look at this http://computer.justanswer.com/compu...ng-registering
it's very techi and I must admit a bit beyond me, I've never had to do this so be careful.
