Sorry have been out of town. Yes the machine is desktop, so I will try to put in a new battery. Whereabouts is it. i opened up the case and I cant find it. Is it on the circuit board or somewhere else usually?
Thanks especially for using the picture otherwise I would have no idea what I would be looking for.

If your machine is only four years old it's most likely a battery of the type I illustrated. Much older machines used to have battery "packs", a group of cells "stacked" and blue shrink wrapped, with two wires/leads going to a connector which joined to pins on the motherboard, or leads soldered directly to the motherboad. See photos.

If you can't see a battery evident on the motherboard, it may be "hidden" behind or underneath something. (A large component, fan shroud, or a heatsink.)

If you still can't find it with a careful search of the motherboard, look for the motherboards make and model number and post that information. It's usually silkscreened onto the motherboard near the middle (between expansion slots), or on/near one edge. This is usually larger "print" (the largest on the motherboard). Also, sometimes only a Model may be printed, such as "K7M" or similar.

If you still can't locate this info, download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, click on the Report Wizard in the Menu Bar. Save all hardware related pages (the default) to a TEXT file in a location of your choice. (It will default the location to C:\Program Files\Lavalys\EVEREST Home Edition\Reports, unless you redirect it.)

Compress (zip) the text file and attach that zipped text document to your next posting. (When posting, click on Advanced, and just below the posting box you'll see "Additional Options", and within that, "Attach Files". Click on "Manage Attachments" and follow the prompts. Browse to the file and choose UPLOAD.)
