Wireless Problem
My laptop has wireless and everything, it works on ym schools network and it used to work on my home network but recently it just stopped getting a good connection. Itll be on wireless for a few seconds and the signal will get weaker and weaker until itll say i got disconnected.
i know the wireless here works im just thinking maybe i accidentally hit some option or something that messed it up, any ideas?

Have you ran the wireless network setup wizard and is the network name(SSID) correct. Also what type of router(Dlink, linksys) are you useing? Are you getting any error messages and what operating system are you useing?
-
Well the router was set up before moved in, my roommates had set it up. It works for their computer and laptop.
The SSID is correct and I know that the WEP code is correct because it worked before. I'm not getting any error messages except sometimes when I'm trying to connect to the wireless it will connect and then say that there is limited or no connectivity. When i try the "repair the wireless network" option that doesn't work, it fails before it finishes.
I think it is a linksys router, and im suing windows xp
i was thinking about just pitching in for a newer stronger router, would that work?
-
It would, I had sort of a similar problem. I went and bought a Dlink WBR-2310 router it is a fast great little router and is fairly cheap. I also recomend maybe buying a kit with a PCMIA card or USB adapter and going with a draft N router. I would stick with Linksys or Dlink(not big on the generic routers). Going and getting the new router is the easiest option and depending on the router you buy cost $$$. Also one other thing you might want to try is connecting a computer to it by wired connection, download the latest firmware for it. You will need your model number, hardware revision and maybe some other info found on the bottom of the router. Remember you should only do this if you are wired to the router. Keep me uptodate on how your making out.

so I downloaded the latest firmware update, it is a Motorola WR850G router.
Is there any special way to do the firmware or do I just double click the icon and install it
-
Yes you just double click the icon and it will do the work and update itself. Just follow any instructions it may give you, but you shouldn't be told to do anything. Also make sure your wireless card drives are upto date. You should go to the manufacture website for the update.
