    Monitor blackouts

First off, sorry if this is the wrong section, but i am running windows XP lol.

about a week ago i came home, turned my computer screen on, it came on normally and then blacked out. I turned the screen off and on and it came back, only to black out again a few seconds later. I restarted my computer and all was fine untill this morning. I turned my computer on, waited for it to come up with windows login screen, and it blacked out again, I turned it on and off and it came on, only too go off again a few seconds later. Restarted and it let me type half my password before blacking out, on, off and it blacked, on off and it blacked again, managed to log in, and bring up my ATI CATALYST control center, hoping to find some trouble shooting stuff on it. none there that i could find. checked the device manager and it's all working fine apparently (yeh right...) It hasn't blacked out again yet. I am truely at a loss as to what the problem could be. any advice would be very welcome.

    I have a DELL E153FPT Monitor.
    on RADEON X300/X550 Series

Could be that the video card is overheating. As long as it is a PCI video card then you can install a fan. A fan that fits in where the PCI cards gose can run around $20. I had something similar happen on a computer running XP and thats all it needed. Not only did it cool the video card it cooled the whole tower a little better.

Try moving the monitor to another machine to see if behaves the same way. If it does then the problem is with the monitor.
