windoes keep rebooting
my pc always repeat rebooting until a few times before i could use it properly. I thought it was affected by virus. so i did the full scan and found a few viruses. Those viruses had been cleaned up. after that, i restart my pc but it keep rebooting 3-4 times until it gave me a message notified that the system file has been misiing. it asked me to repair the windows. so i did it in the recovery console. windows then delete and copy files and reboot. after that the GUI portion with blue colors appeared. so i just wait until the system finish installing. but i notify that during the installation (in the blue screen), my pc reboot a few times. each time it will continue installing the windows. but the main problem is the process does not finish after 7 hours. The percentage that indicate the process running remain 34% and did not move but the icon below that indicates the process is running is working good. after that, i decided to install fresh copy of windows in the same partition (c drive). firstly, i delete the partition c and begin to install the windows but the same problem happened again when the GUI portion appeared. The installation process did not finish after many hours of waiting and the percentage still remain at 34%. what should i do?? please help me..

Do you mean the setup freezes at 34 minutes remaining?
If so this is a common error. Two ideas here:
1) You'll need to manually delete the NTFS partition and start over...
Download the small "delpart.exe" file here:
http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm
2) http://techtracer.com/2007/03/12/xp-...minute-hiccup/

no. i mean it freezes when the process is completed for 34% not 34 minutes. is this problem happen because my hard disk crash? what i should do now?
-
Sorry I don't really follow where XP Setup shows any percentage.
Anyway here is a good guide to a Clean Install:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cl...all.html#steps
The "thumbnails" on the left side are enlargeable.
I would run the DelPart as mentioned above then a Clean Install.
If DelPart does not work try KillDisk.
If all this fails run the manufacturers diagnostic on that hard drive.

sorry.. you're correct because the setup freezes at 34 minutes remaining. i tried to plug out my power supply and RAM and reinstall them back again. then i started formatting and installing the windows again. it worked and the installation could be completed. but the problem is my pc reboot again 2-3 times before it can show the desktop. it restarts after 7-10 seconds just before the monitor shows the loading of window, after it lists out the hardware detected (cpu, primary master, primary slave...). i tried once again to repair my pc by plug out the power supply and installed it back. but this time the problem become more worst because it cannot start at all!! i had installed it properly and don't know what is the problem anymore. Before this, i used the 400W power supply for pentium 4. i just bought the new one after this problem happen. this time i bought the 500W power supply because they told me it would be fitted. help me.. :nervous:

Can you go back to the old Power Supply and boot?
This is sounding like a hardware problem. Can you get either Power Supply to boot you into your BIOS Setup?
Check your connections. The 20/24 pin main plus the 4/8 pin 12V for the CPU.
Do you get any BEEPS when trying to boot the computer?
Sorry if this is tedious but we are sort of down to basic troubleshooting at this point.

i've noticed one thing just now. the fan of my new power supply does not function at all. does it mean i have a problem with it?
-
The fan needs to work: yes.
Sorry it is late for me but that is a definite problem: yes.
Will be back.

i have plugged in back the old power supply. when i reboot, the system notifies there is system file missing. so i've decided to repair the windows installation. but once again the same problem occured where my pc freezes when the setup at 7 minutes remaining. please help me...

You want to run a Clean Install. Not Repair.
Did you ever run DelPart or KillDisk? If not do so.
If the problems continue run the manufacturers diagnostic on the hard drive.
If the hard drive is good I would try different RAM.
